Description: This dataset is a derived subset of the USGS Coastal Storm Modeling System (CoSMoS) v3.0 Phase 2 flood projections for Southern California. To support web-based planning tools in the City of San Diego, this version includes only two scenarios: 1. 100-Year Flood Extent – Represents storm-induced coastal flooding under a modeled 100-year storm event 2. Average Condition Flood Extent – Represents daily tidal flooding under projected sea level rise Key differences from the original USGS data: • Converted from raster to polygon vector format in order to enable spatial queries (e.g., parcel intersections in web apps) • Generalized using a 5-meter simplify tolerance to reduce vertex count and improve performance in browser-based maps These simplifications were essential for publishing usable layers in interactive mapping applications. However, this vector version maintains core geographic accuracy and is suitable for neighborhood-scale planning and visualization.
